Mabel (Steinbach) Stelter Ashorn, 93, died February 28, 2010 in Trinity Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at Zion Lutheran Church of Zionsville, with Pastor David Hall officiating. Interment will be in the Friedens United Church of Christ Cemetery of Gay Hill. The family will receive friends and relatives Monday evening from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel.

Survivors include daughter Faye Stelter of Brenham; son, Ray Stelter and wife Sandy of Waller; grandchildren Suzanne and Trey Brown, Shelly and John Hill, Lori and Mark Robohm, Chris and Melanie Stelter; great-grandchildren: Kaitlin and Luke Hill, Megan and Tyler Stelter, and Hayden Brown.

Mabel was born December 1, 1916 in Gay Hill to Henry and Augusta (Boeker) Steinbach. She was baptized and later confirmed in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Gay Hill. On October 18, 1937, she married Gus Stelter in the same church. He preceded her in death in 1965. On July 8, 1978, Mabel married Milton Ashorn in Zion Lutheran Church of Zionsville. He preceded her in death October 12, 1992. Employed for 32 years by Maddox Furniture Mfg. of Brenham, she served as the supervisor of the sewing department. She was also retired from Blinn College, having worked in the cafeteria for a number of years.

Mabel was member of Zion Lutheran Church. Her family was the center of her life. She enjoyed the family gatherings and her great-grandchildren gave her much joy. She loved nature, her church, and her many friends. Her family extends special thanks for the support and care that the staff of Trinity Care Center gave her the last three years of her life.

Serving as pallbearers will be Al James Steinbach, Ronald Reimer, Ronnie Kelm, Don Stelter, Marvin Spreen, and Don Rash. Ernie Bentke will be an honorary pallbearer.

Memorials may be directed to Zion Lutheran Church.
